KC Club History

Father Michael Troy, founder of Knights of Columbus Trojan Soccer Association, was born in Ireland, trained in Switzerland, and came to Edmonton via Toronto in 1964. In Edmonton, he continued his career which saw him become a well respected cleric, educator, coach, author, mentor, and friend to numerous people in our area. In the mid 70’s he formed our first KC team with graduates from St Joseph’s and Archbishop O’Leary High Schools. Our association grew and became incorporated in 1979. Fr. Troy was always passionate about soccer and sports in general, having been a elite level athlete himself in soccer, rugby, and track. His vision was the guiding force behind the association we have today and the respect that the name KC Trojans has in the soccer community. Father Troy passed away in March of 2010 at the age of 92.

The Dream

Father Troy’s dream was to have a home for his soccer teams. With the advent of the Multi-Sport Tournament and Recreation Site (MTRS), this vision is coming true. In partnership with Southwest United Soccer we are proceeding with the further development of six soccer fields and clubhouse facilities at the MTRS site located at 50th St. and Ellerslie Road in south east Edmonton. The facility is now called the Ivor Dent Sports Park. The primary field will be named in honour of Fr. Troy. This field will feature artificial turf, full lighting, and seating

The Project

So, we have the Fr. Troy Project. Our focus is on raising funds to develop this primary field and the other fields to bring KC Trojans Soccer home. We have developed a fundraising program to meet these ends and hope we can count on KC Soccer supporters to help us reach our goal!
